Intro
I have been quiet here on Oren's blog for the past 20 or so days. I myself have not been quiet though. University is in full swing, and the tech side of my brain has also been in full swing. Been doing a lot of programming, server admin stuff, studying, and homework. Not to mention, Blizzard is doing the WoW Forever Beta right now and I got in for free. But I wanted to pop in and say that I am not gone or given up on this.
The Silver Circle
I believe that I have to put my fantasy novel on pause for now because of all the other time commitments I have on me. But I hope to write more snippets and pieces from the world to continue expanding it until I can write the whole thing out.
I really want to explore my main character more. Kaede is really kind and a really good leader. She is able to put her trust in her people and let them run with whatever endeavour they are in. It's weird though, because the more I write about her, the less of the main character she is. The story was created to tell about her story as the guild leader, but the more I write, the less it is about her. She is always there, but is almost never the main character.
And Kaede's right-hand "man", Rey, has been really difficult to write about. It is difficult to articulate what I am envisioning for Rey, so she hasn't been coming off right. I think she is coming across as more of an emo troublemaker than what she really is; analytical, smart, honest, and free to be herself.
Reading
My reading has also suffered and I have not finished a great deal of books recently. I have been planning on doing one big review every month for the books I have read. But I haven't been able to finish any since One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest on Sep 8th. I am currently midway through Empire of the Damned by Jay Kristoff and The Moving Finger by Agatha Christie.
I have a bunch of books pre planned for October. I tried to find a bunch of spooky Halloween-vibe books. Carmilla, Call of Cthulhu, Halloween Party, Graveyard Book, Sleepy Hollow, and Sworn Soldier Trilogy to name a few. I think most of these I will do as a collective review, but there are three that I want to do individual reviews of.
AND in November, I am planning to read all the T. Kingfisher books that revolve around the world of the White Rat. I am very excited. There are two older ones in that series that I have been meaning to read. Plus a brand new one coming out that I am dying to read.
Conclusion
I am really hoping to pump the reading and creative writing these coming two months. So hang tight. :)
